Ndebele Residence Painting

In the 18th century the Ndzundza Ndebele people of South Africa produced their personal tradition and style of property painting. They began employing mud-walled houses in the mid-18th century when these symbols commence to be developed on their houses and walls. These wall paintings done by the females was their secret code to their folks, disguised to anyone but the Ndebele. Now, the Kabul city administration has taken this aesthetic and run with it, launching a project to paint the exteriors of nearly two,000 houses on the western-facing hills of Kabul.
